What is Shabbat Mishpatim?

As we read this week's Torah portion, Mishpatim, we are reminded of the Hebrew Free Loan Association of San Antonio's mission: lending funds without fees or interest.

Parashat Mishpatim speaks directly to this sacred responsibility.

“If you lend money to My people, even to the poor among you, do not act toward them as a creditor; you shall not charge them interest.” — Exodus 22:24 (Parashat Mishpatim)

This commandment is echoed in Parashat Vayikra:

“You shall not lend him your money at interest or give him your food for profit.” — Leviticus 25:37 (Parashat Vayikra)

We encourage you to think about the impact your donations make on so many friends and neighbors who experience unexpected financial challenges.

Please join the HFLA-SA Family at hfla-sa.org.  Apply for a loan, browse and commission a page in the historic Books of Reminiscence, donate as you can to support our work, make provisions to include HFLA-SA in your estate planning.  YOU make the difference in our loan recipients lives.

Shabbat shalom.
